Banora Point Project $349 million upgrade
The Pacific Highway at Banora Point is an urban arterial road. Serving as the major transport link between Sydney and Brisbane, it also services a growing population on the North Coast of New South Wales. This section of the Pacific Highway currently has an unsatisfactory safety record and constant traffic conflicts with local traffic accessing the adjacent developing residential areas. The RTA has formed an alliance with Abi Group Contractors, Seymour Whyte Constructions and SMEC to design and build the Banora Point upgrade. This $349 million project is scheduled for competition in mid 2012 and will serve as a 2.5 kilo metre deviation to bypass the urban centre allowing local traffic to move around South Tweed Heads and surrounding areas without having to use the Highway.
